Midlife Crisis Alert: Buying A Classic Mustang

I really haven’t so much been able to write on my web site quite as often as I might like, owing to all the time I have been dealing with my old man with his incredibly wacky midlife crisis. Okay, I suppose it isn’t as far out as it could be. How it went, I mean the way he played it out was to get himself dressed up like he was Fonzie or something, and come on over to my place and casually inform me, in his “coolest” possible vocal tone: “Put some shades on, dude, we’re going to be looking for some classic Mustangs for sale. That’s right, dude, I’m going to buy one.”

Before I knew what was happening we were hopping around to a couple of those wild vintage car places that you’re just about sure are mob-run, and I can’t believe it when my crazy padre wrote a check within just a few minutes, for a very well-preserved classic car. I have to admit, it’s one hell of a machine. It made some great noise too.

I want to point out that I phrased that in the past tense. It sounded great right up until it seized up completely. Dad says that it is just a quick fix and all he needs is the right part. Only thing is, it’s not as easy to come across 1968 Mustang parts as it was some 30 years ago, but my pop swears there is a really big market for them to this day. From what I’m told the best place to find parts for 1967 Mustangs is actually web auctions, since you can find them refurbished and sometimes as good as new. Not necessarily super-cheap, however… Come on, man, we’re talking about thirty year old Mustang parts.

I guess it could’ve been worse… It would’ve been worse if he’d gone and found a volkswagen bus.
